Thing 5: The and Improved School....Maybe
As technology continues to expand and evolve a new endangered species is
beginning to become apparent, the teacher. Sad and astounding at the same time,
School 2.0 as coined by some embodies the new phase of education. What possibly
can the internet do that a teacher cannot? The answer is a lot. A teacher
cannot produce multimedia aids that only the internet can provide. Nor can a
teacher be multiple places at one time that the internet can be thanks to the availability
of computers. It is not the end of person to person education as a whole; it
just means that the schools of the future will turn their gaze from textbooks
to the ever expanding realm of internet knowledge. For in the end it is people
who must decide what information is to remain or be removed from the internet to
insure that only the facts and not baseless opinions pollute the minds of our
impressionable youth.
Thing 4: Comment and Comment some more
Commenting serves to help develop one's knowledge of diverse views on various issues from the most basic opinions as whose film is the best of the whole year or even the necessities for reform in education. By openly communicating in a blog setting one can learn from and educate others and develop a sense of community that would otherwises be restricted because of geographical barriers or privacy concerns.
Comments should never be vulgar or alienating towards any group of people. One should always treat the comments of other's with respect and not to flame a situation into a confrontation via written language. "Trolling" or harrassing others in a blog is entirely bad in taste and civility. Be polite and treat others with respect and poise.
The five blogs I selected from our were Ashley Paul, Maria Donald, BSmith, Abby Smith, and Derek Carroll's. I selected them at random with the exception of two. I selected Ashley Paul and BSmith's blogs since they were kind enough to comment on mine. The other two blogs of my choice were www.trueghosttales.com/paranormal/ and www.technologytell.com/gaming/. I selected this two for my passion for the paranormal and gaming world. With the blogs involoving the class, I commented on the experience of making the blog and the avatars that accompany them. The final two of my choosing on treghosttales.com I commented on a man's experience as a child who had a run in with an unknown winged creature by informing him of family's history of paranormal incidences. On technologytell.com I had to vent my frustration concerning the 10th anniversary release of Kingdoms Hearts which is only for the 3DS and consists of perhaps the worse games ever made.
I commented quite positively on the blogs on those that concerned the class. Ashley Paul's for example I commented on the similiar beliefs that we had for blogs as tools to inform students of homework and class schedule changes. On my two personally picked blogs of interest I was able to be less formal and more of myself with dealing with topics that I have a real passion for: the supernatural and gaming.

Thing 3: Blog and the Classroom
Referring back to my first post regarding technology and its benefits for the whole of civilization, I can say with most honesty that I think a blog would be most beneficial to me and my future students. Since students tend to forget minor details or let entire class lessons slip their mind, a blog can help serve as a reminder for students on what the class was about that given day. By posting study material, short quizzes, and critical thinking exercises on my blog I would be able to help students even when I am not there to assist them in person on a given issue.
I believe a student in a classroom is less likely to be enthusiastic about learning if he or she feels that any action they make is to be judged harshly. Besides just to be used as a source of additional assistance for the class, I would use it to help better understand my students’ interests and build a better sense of understanding between me and them through less formal and more open communication. A happy student is a better student.
Thing 2: Birth of a......well....little me
Subtlety is the best policy. A universal phrase that is true as 24 karat gold. I do not enjoy trying to be clever or hip in anything I do. I only want to get the job done with little flair as possible. And I do not disappoint. I chose my screen name as cgoda123 and the title of my blog as "Goda's 23 Things" because that is what it is; nothing more and nothing less. If mediocre was a standard, I would be the champion of mediocrity.
The overall experience in creating the blog was simple. Almost too simple in fact that I nearly panicked that I had done something wrong in the process. The process was so easy and pain-free that I am thinking about my own personal blog separate from this one. That would be fun times a million and two.
I love avatars! Nothing quite puts a simile on face like a little cartoon guy with a sheep next to him. My avatar shares very little with me. Only when it comes to the glasses, hairstyle, and the tired look on his face is a similarity evident. The sheep symbolizes the random nature of my thinking and also gives the overall appearance of my avatar a much more sophisticated meaning many would think was there.
Well that is the story of how my blog came to be. I only hope that it was up to par and not an overshot of awesomeness. That would be too much.
Thing 1: My learning habits and Me
The easiest learning habit for me is the utilization of technology to my advantage. Thanks to the many advances in communications such as YouTube, Skype, and even FaceBook people are more freely capable of sharing vast amounts of information with little effort and nearly no stress. Despite all the technology in the world, I am still crippled by my lack of foresight in my efforts to develop a clear goal in mind. By having a beginning with no end leaves me in a mental limbo and fighting through a fog of vague and unrelenting empty thoughts. I hope that the Web 2.0 tools are as magical as they are numerous, but hoping does little to lessen the threat of anxiety overload. I would really enjoy seeing how I could incorporate the Web 2.0 tools in my future career as a full-time teacher and not waste time in doing so.
Posting my first blog post has been fun. I only wish I knew how to do this sort of thing sooner. I cannot say for sure if my grammar and spelling in this post has been absolutely perfect, but that is why there is editors.
